What is a payment arrangement?
A payment arrangement is an agreement with the ATO to pay a tax debt by instalments over an agreed period instead of in full immediately. General interest charge usually continues to accrue on the outstanding balance while the arrangement runs.
Example
A transport operator agrees to clear $85,000 of BAS debt over 18 monthly instalments while continuing to lodge and pay new obligations on time.
Why it matters
A maintained arrangement shows engagement and is viewed far more favourably by lenders than an ignored balance.
