The situation

A Wollongong haulage operator running four trucks won additional steel freight work and needed a used prime mover and a matching semi-trailer to service it. The prime mover was a five-year-old unit from a dealer at $215,000 and the trailer a private-sale purchase at $80,000. The private sale and the age of the used prime mover both narrowed the lender options considerably, and the freight contract had a fixed start date the operator could not move.

What we did

We wrote the two assets as separate contracts under one master facility: 48 months on the prime mover to match its remaining working life, and 60 months on the trailer, which holds value longer. The private-sale trailer required a PPSR search, seller verification and an inspection, which we arranged in parallel with the dealer settlement rather than sequentially so the whole purchase could complete together.

The outcome

Both assets settled within the same week, with the dealer paid against its tax invoice and the private seller paid after the PPSR check cleared. Separate terms mean the prime mover can be paid out and replaced without disturbing the trailer contract, which the operator wanted for flexibility. Repayments were structured monthly to align with the freight contract's payment cycle, and the operator started on the new work the following Monday as planned.
